Clayton, North Carolina—Irving’s Andrew McElvain competed against some of the greatest heavy equipment operators during Caterpillar’s Global Operator Challenge North American Regional held at a Caterpillar facility in Clayton, NC. McElvain works for Lindamood, Inc.

Caterpillar’s Global Operator Challenge tests the skills and precision of equipment operators as they showcase their excellence in operating Cat machinery and their ability to master heavy equipment safely and efficiently.

McElvain operated four different pieces of Cat equipment in the challenge. Scoring is based on the operator’s skills, safety, efficiency and competence in using technology to enhance the machine’s performance.

“The Global Operator Challenge as a tribute to skilled professionals who build and maintain our nation’s infrastructure,” said Jason Hurdis, global industry solutions manager for Caterpillar. “In an industry that continues to face labor shortages and the challenge of evolving technologies, the Global Operator Challenge highlights the critical role of machine operators and specialized, technical and hands-on skills required for a career in the trades.”

The winners of this regional challenge will move on to the Global Operator Challenge Finals in Las Vegas in March.
